TOTE Puts Planned Hawaii Service on Indefinite Hold
April 1, 2018
In a surprise move Seattle-based TOTE Maritime has placed its plans for a new container service to Hawaii on hold and said it will not renew the letter of intent it signed with Philly Shipyard, which expired at the end of January, for several new container ships.
The decision follows the company’s technical review of the redevelopment of Piers 1 and 2 in Honolulu Harbor, which had been allotted to it by the Hawaii Department of Transportation (see Pacific Maritime Magazine, Dec. 2017). TOTE said the scope and timing of needed upgrades at the Piers influenced its decision but said it is still open to working with the Department of Transportation to modify those plans and prepare a timeline that would allow it to commence its service
