New ATB tug Nancy Peterkin was launched at Nichols Bros. with the help of two floating cranes.

The Nichols Brothers yard on Whidbey Island has launched the ATB tug Nancy Peterkin for Kirby Offshore Marine, with sister tug Tina Pyne to follow in December. To move the 136-foot by 44-foot tug into the water, the yard made use of a track and dolly system developed by Engineering Heavy Service to handle ferry superstructures the yard has been building under subcontract to Vigor Industrial for Washington State Ferries.

Although two floating cranes, both supplied by General Construction, were also used for the tug launch, Nichols Brothers is planning to install rigid buoyancy tanks to the side of the launch frame to eliminate need in the future.
