NASSCO Launches Tanker Construction
The General Dynamics NASSCO yard at San Diego has started construction of the second of three 50,000-dwt, 330,000-bbl capacity product tankers it is building for SEA-Vista Newbuild III LLC, a subsidiary of Houston-based SEACOR Holding Inc.
The 610-foot ships have been designed by South Korea’s DSEC, a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, and are a continuation of the ECO MR Tanker series. The vessels are being fitted with a Ballast Water treatment system and are to be powered by G-series MAN ME slow-speed main engines. In addition, the tankers will have the ability to accommodate a future installation of an LNG fuel gas system and storage tanks.
