Great Land for Scrap

Capable of carrying up to 386 trailers and 126 vehicles on the 1,500-mile run between Tacoma and Anchorage, the 38-year-old trailership Great Land has gone for scrap.

Totem Ocean Trailer Express’ 1975-built trailership Great Land left the coast in March under tow of Weeks Marine’s similar-vintage tug Alexandria to the scrapyards of Brownsville, Texas and demolition. The vessel made its initial call at the Port of Tacoma in 1976, which marked a major shift in the Alaska trade from port of seattle. Sister ship Westward Venture was scrapped in Texas last year while another sister, Northern Lights, continues to operate as >El Faro in the Puerto Rico trade.
